Bright Light Bright Light

Bright Light Bright Light is Welsh songwriter, producer, remixer and multi-instrumentalist Rod Thomas. Bright Light Bright Light creates dynamic, shimmering synth-pop gems which bounce around bedroom walls and dancefloors. Growing up between two villages in the South Wales valleys meant that the man at the heart of Bright Light Bright Light, Rod Thomas, had not much else to do than fall in love with music, and those that made music, and then create his own songs. In 2006 he started working on his music full time, setting up his own label Self Raising Records. Since that time his reputation as a live performer has grown and grown with support slots for artists such as Sparks, James Yuill, Noah and the Whale and Duffy. The Brute Chorus

The Brute Chorus have been combining blues, folk and garage music since 2008. They started out with a residency at London's infamous The Hawley Arms and put out their first two singles on the pub's label Bumpman. After a year of relentless touring and widespread acclaim from DJ's like Steve Lamacq and Zane Lowe, the Brutes decided to record their debut album in front of a live audience at The Roundhouse in Camden. The album came out packaged in a attractive and collectable wooden sleeve hand-made by the band. It received a host of 5 star reviews from Clash, Artrocker, BBC and Drowned in Sound amongst others. In 2010 the band signed to east London indie label Tape and recorded their second album in a freezing hall in the Lake District. Laurel Collective
The Laurel Collective

The Laurel Collective are a London based collision of sound and vocals who released their techni-colored debut on Domino offshoot Double Six Records. "Feel good Hits of a Nuclear Winter" was an 8 track mini-album of epic mutant-pop anthems that eschewed all of the genres cliches, being neither twee nor laden with jangly guitars, its rousing songs burst with passion and fizzing, frazzled synths. A new collection of songs is due for release later this year, co-inciding with a performance at their very own festival In The Woods. Ever hard-working and searching for new outlets for their escapades, the band now curate a monthly residency at The Stags Head with their Hindenburg Mile High Club nights which has hosted leftfield talent such as Boningen, Speak and the Spells, Not Cool, Micachu and the Shapes, Innercity Pirates plus Connan & Sam (Late of the Pier).

The Mountains and the Trees
The Mountains and the Trees

After spending most of his musical career behind the drums, Jon Janes (aka The Mountains and the Trees) finally came out of hiding (it was a large drum-kit!) and embraced the singer-songwriter inside. Shy at first, he adopted the stage moniker The Mountains and The Trees and has been loving it ever since. Originally a two-piece, it shrunk to a solo act, then grew to a 3-piece, 4-piece, shrunk again to a 2-piece, grew again to a 3-pie... you get the idea. The size of The Mountains and The Trees changes with the weather and, often, with whomever in the crowd is brave enough to step on stage to play and sing along. Genre-wise, Janes has too many effects pedals for folk, too many banjos for rock-n-roll (if you're wondering how many banjos are too many - it's one). He playfully describes himself as Folk-Pop or Folk-N-Roll. Recordings contain a variety of instruments, such as guitar, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, bells, and drums. Live, Janes backs himself up with the help of some looping-pedals, some deft footwork, and a little luck.

My First Tooth
My First Tooth

Hailing from Northampton, My First Tooth is the totally encapsulating, spine-tingling indie-folk creation of singer-songwriter Ross Witt. Taking influence from modern indie heroes such as Eels, Okkervil River, Joanna Newsom and Neutral Milk Hotel, My First Tooth craft ambitious and beautiful songs that display all their subtle heartbroken soul and unwittingly touching melody. Their debut EP - ‘My First Tooth and the Rubies’ – was released on Alcopop! Records in April 09. Truly DIY, it was Ross’s first record label foray, after spending the previous three years releasing his own unannounced limited edition material and performing up to 150 shows a year with Violinist Sophie in the UK & Ireland, supporting the likes of Noah & The Whale, Woodpigeon, Johnny Flynn, Shearwater, Joseph Arthur, Pete Molinari, The Antlers, Langhorne Slim and Chris TT. Since adding bassist Jo & drummer Gareth to the line-up in early 09 the full band have been compared to Arcade Fire, Beirut, and Bright Eyes, and earned themselves a slot at In The City 09. The band have already earned rave reviews in Artrocker & Big Cheese, have been described by The Fly as “seriously impressive” and XFM as “Killer pretty stuff”, and have received radio play from Radio 1, Radio 6, XFM and in Europe and North America. Currently finishing work on their debut album with Paul Wilkinson (Duke Special / Athlete) due for release this summer.

Polock
Polock

Polock hail from Valencia, Spain and are following in the footsteps of beloved Euro-bands like Phoenix, destroying the default assumption that young, exciting and effortlessly cool bands are home-grown or hail from across the pond. Polock are five young men making music The Stokes would?ve made, had their blend of garage rock story-telling been written under the Spanish sun and a giant disco ball; laced with sparkling Friendly Fire-esque electronica.

Queen of Hearts
Polock “A new big pop thing...incredible.” – POPJUSTICE.com
Dead heading other English roses with incisions of inch perfect pop, Queen of Hearts is a blue blooded, gilt-edged bid for the throne. Arriving on the scene with the darkly appealing electro gem Freestyle – written with Hypemachine regular Dreamtrak – Queen Of Hearts appears resplendent and bejewelled, lighting the torch for high concept, couture pop.
With her soaring ‘ballads to a beat’ channelling the dance floor euphoria and the underlying melancholy of Disco, Queen Of Hearts is eminently danceable, infinitely memorable and ultimately beguiling.
A prolific song writing talent, she has already collaborated with Ercola (Annie), Johan Agebjorn (Sally Shapiro), Fear Of Tigers (Kylie), Dreamtrak and Diamond Cut.
The Last Day Of Summer, a collaboration with Agebjorn and Ercola will be released was released May 2011 on Paper Bag.

The Woe Betides
The Woe Betides

It began on a dark night in the dimly lit upstairs of a London pub. Grundy le Zimbra and The Late Simon Mastrantone gave an impromptu performance at the infamous Songs in the Dark night using merely hand claps and harmonies. Later, there would be fuzzy guitars, out-of-tune violins and organically farmed beats. But on that first night, the room was filled with the simple sounds of man, melody and uneasy applause.
From the mysterious echoes of that sinister evening a band was born, and it stomped and clapped it's way around the country. To fill the gaps they enlisted the help of a mysterious iconoclast calling himself The Colonel and the band took to the road forever more, unleashing an instrument swapping, energy-soaked live mixture of grunge, pop and electronica at whichever haunted house they arrived.

"...beguiling and delighting...deft puppet-masters of indie." NME

"...shronky guitar pop..." Artrocker
